osxThis was probably one of the best upgrades that I have ever made.  I am a huge fan of Apple and Leopard has only increased my passion.  I love Apple products and software because they are always coming up with new stuff that makes my life more productive.  It seems like they are never satisfied.  So here are some of the reason why I love Leopard:

  1. Quick Look – I never have to download anything that is sent as an attachment.  It doesn’t matter if it is a document, PDF, or music all I have to do is hit Quick Look and I can see what it is.  This also works great in the Finder.  When I am looking for a specific document I can look through without having to open Pages, Numbers, or Keynote.
  2. Spaces – With this option I am able to have multiple work spaces.  I currently use 4 spaces.  One for my internet, mail, and Twitter.  One for Things and iCal.  Another for iTunes and the last one for any projects I am working on.
  3. Time Machine – If your like me at some point in time you have lost everything.  Time Machine is great because I just plug in my MacBook in the morning and it regularly backs up during the day.  Another cool feature is that you can go back like 15 days in time and see how a document has changes during that time or if you need to go back to the original you can.

Genius Playlists

This is a great new feature in iTunes.  This feature has been great for me a worship leader.  This may sound weird, but it has helped me build better setlists for worship experiences.  One of the things that I have been trying to achieve is consistency in the theme of our worship services and Genius Playlists has been great for this.  You may be thinking it can’t be that hard to find songs that center around a specific theme.  Well, it’s harder than you think when your are dealing with different keys and songs you may or may not be able to pull off.  Here are some reasons why I use Genius:

  1. It can create a playlist from the songs that I all ready own.  My iTunes has grown to the point where I can easily forget what is in there.
  2. It can create a playlist of songs that I are found in the iTunes Store.  This has been great because I am getting exposed to new artists and new expressions of worship.
  3. It helps keep things fresh.  Many times what is easy and familiar can be very attractive especially when leading worship is only part of my job.  Whether it is a new or old song I am give a playlist with great ideas and options.

Google Reader

One of my favorite online applications is Google Reader.  This is a great tool that helps me keep up on all of the blogs that I read.  This is the first and only reader I have ever used.  I am sure there are other great ones out there, but here are some of the reasons I use a Reader:

  1. One location: All of the blogs I read are in one place.  Not an endless list in my bookmarks bar.
  2. Updates/Streamlined reading: Every time I log in there are new post ready for me to read.  On the home page there is a nice streamlined list of blogs that have posted new material.  The side toolbar keeps track of what blogs I have read and what blogs deserve some attention.
  3. Recommendations: Based on the information in the blogs I follow and where I live the Google Reader suggest other blogs I may be interested in.

Twitter asks one question, “What are you doing?” Answers must be under 140 characters in length and can be sent via mobile texting, instant message, or the web.Twitter

Recently, I have become a fan of Twitter.  My friend Sam has been using this tool for a while now.  He has not only used it as a tool to keep up on what people are doing, but also connect with people who are in the same career field that he is.  He has become a part of a network of people who are working together to make a difference.

This is the main reason why I gave in and started with Twitter.  I want to find out what is going on in other churches with other pastors.  I am curious to see how people each and every week are creating transformational experience during their church services.  I am curious about what other worship leaders, children’s ministry  leaders, mission pastor’s, and leaders are doing.  How are they going about glorifying God’s name and seeing His kingdom come to this earth.  Twitter is helping me connect with these people who I may never have had access to before.

Task management has never been easier. –

This has probably the best application I have ever downloaded.  At the beginning of this year I was looking for an application to help me organize my to-do’s, thoughts, and responsibilities.  Here are some of the reasons that I love Things:

1. It is set automatically to open when I start my computer, so there is no escaping it.

2. I can schedule to-do’s, tasks, or appointments.  Again, so there is no escaping it.

3. Things helps me to prioritize.  I can organize my to-do’s into what needs to happen today and what needs to happen next.  I can schedule to-do’s or categorize them as a ‘someday’.

4. I can connect people to to-do’s.  Whether I report to someone or they report to me I can connect specific to-do’s to the right people.

5. I can create areas of responsibilities that have a regular set of to-do’s, this should help with being more thorough.
